Epley’s Manoeuvre-an easy exercise for vertigo
Epley’s manoeuvere is a simple exercise which is really helpful for BPP Vertigo. BPPV- Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo happens when the small crystals of calcium get loose in your inner ear. Your ear contains calcium crystals that help you detect movement. Sometimes these crystals detach and when they move inside your ear canals, they can send incorrect signals to your brain about what position you are in, causing you to feel dizzy. You may feel it particularly when you're getting in or out of bed, or tilting your head up.
I can perform Epley’s manoeuvre in my clinic, but you can also do it at home to alleviate symptoms.
Lie on the edge of the bed, with your head protruding over the side. Please be careful here!
Let your head drop back off the edge of the bed.
Turn your head to the right side, keeping your head tilted back. Hold this for 60 seconds
Now turn yourself onto your side, keeping your head turned- you should end up looking at the floor. Hold this for 60 seconds.
Repeat this for the left hand side
Get up slowly!
